Welcome to APP! Our mission is to create a centralized space for students to develop and take action on their interest in alt proteins (cell-cultivated, plant, or fermentation-based) through educational curricula, research opportunities, and engagement with the startup ecosystem.
We are an open student community with the shared goal of generating environmental, social, and economic impact through alternative proteins.
What are alternative proteins?
Alternative proteins are foods that contain protein from non-animal sources, such as plants, fungi, and animal cells, and they are designed to taste the same or better than conventional animal products.
Some products such as plant-based and fermentation-derived options are available to consumers today, while others such as cultivated meats remain primarily in development. Ultimately, alternative proteins are a biotech-based solution to feeding 10 billion people by 2050 sustainably, efficiently, and safely - they offer a better way to feed the world.

Good Food Institute
GFI is a nonprofit think tank that has pioneered education and awareness surrounding alt proteins. Their team consists of scientists, companies, and policymakers that are all working towards meeting multiple sustainable development goals, such as food security, global health and biodiversity. Ultimately, the GFI is aimed at advancing alternative protein innovation to improve the global food system for the planet, people, and animals.
There exist over 36 alternative protein chapters spread out across the globe all under GFI.
