Why APP: William is interested in learning more about alternative proteins and how they can be produced through synthetic and stem cell biology!

Interests/Hobbies: Outside of the world of science, he loves playing the cello and following soccer

Major: Political Science and French

Hometown: Arcadia, CA

Why APP: Nina is passionate about learning about sustainable solutions to climate change, particularly as it relates to the food industry!

Interests/Hobbies: Running, reading, solving/making crossword puzzles

Chloe Ng

Year: Junior (2026)

Major: Chemical Engineering and Earth Science Hometown: Danville, CA

Why APP: Chloe has always been interested in finding more sustainable alternatives in day-to-day life. Alternative proteins is an intriguing solution as it is more eco-friendly and also protects animal rights.

Interests/Hobbies: climate tech, plant-based diet, taekwondo, Chinese lion dance, origami

Year: Senior (2025)

Major: Cognitive Science

Hometown: Silver Spring, MD

Why APP: Mahir is interested in the potential of alternative proteins to reduce widespread animal suffering. Interests/hobbies: Traveling, meditation, playing music.

Major: Neuroscience

Hometown: San Jose, CA

Why APP: Brandon is passionate about learning about sustainable solutions to climate change, particularly as it relates to the food industry!

Interests/Hobbies: Volleyball, music production, baking, following different sports teams

Nicole Chung

Year: Sophomore (2027)

Major: Neuroscience 

Hometown: Hong Kong/ CT

Why APP: As a pescatarian and runner, Nicole has always been interested in cultivating a balanced and healthy plant-based diet. She believes it would be enriching to witness how nutrition and bioengineering can contribute to sustainability and better health.

Interests: Distance running (especially marathon running!), hiking and cooking.

Asmus Nielsen

Major: Biochem and Biophysics

Why APP: Asmus loves biotech and everything about APP seemed like a great opportunity to understand about a really interesting part of the industry.

Hobbies/Interests: Traveling and learning languages

Aaron Lee

Major: Biology & Design

Why APP: Aaron has always loved learning about (and trying) alternative proteins, and he's excited to witness how we can successfully integrate these more sustainable foods on a wide scale. 

Interests/Hobbies: swimming, design, going to the gym, eating, cooking, and baking

Alexza Zaragoza

Major: Cognitive Science and Biology

Why APP: Alexza is interested in nutrition and learning about ways to promote healthy eating. She also wants to explore how alternative proteins can help with sustainability.

Interests/Hobbies: Figure skating, design, baking, and trying new boba/coffee shops

Why APP: Grace has always been interested in nutrition and food security. She found that alt proteins are an exciting solution to address challenges using biology.

Interests/Hobbies: Making mead and jewelry, hiking, learning about biotech and climatetech startups

Why APP: Riya is passionate about addressing food insecurity in the US and on a global scale. When she discovered alternative proteins, she realized they could be a high potential solution!
